  26.             Los Nettos is a regional network in the Los Angeles area.
  27.  
  28.             Important features of Los Nettos are that it is  (1)  an  IP
  29.             network,  and  (2) it is ``high speed.'' All connections and
  30.             links are at least T1 (1.5 Mbps) capacity.  A  goal  of  Los
  31.             Nettos is to provide an environment to develop very interac-
  32.             tive network applications.

  34.             Los Nettos is operated by the member organizations,  not  by
  35.             DARPA,  or  NASA,  NSF, or DOE, etc.  It may be used for any
  36.             educational or research purpose.

  38.             The  member  organizations  are  universities  and  research
  39.             laboratories.   The  Information Sciences Institute (ISI) of
  40.             the University of Southern  California  (USC)  acts  as  the
  41.             agent for Los Nettos.

  43.             Nine organizations are already participating in this network
  44.             (ISI, USC, JPL, CalTech, UCLA, TIS, Rand, TRW, and NOSC).  A
  45.             number of  other  research  centers  have  expressed  strong
  46.             interest in participating.

  48.             Los Nettos will interoperate with CERFnet and other networks
  49.             to provide access to special resources (for example, the San

  78.             Any of the members  can  exchange  traffic  with  any  other
  79.             member  for  any  purpose.   Any  member  may use any of the
  80.             long-haul networks Los Nettos has  connections  to,  subject
  81.             only  to the restrictions of the owner of the long-haul net-

  90.             Each Los Nettos Member is permitted to have  associates  and
  91.             connect them to the network.  Each Los Nettos member can set
  92.             its own policies for associates.   Currently,  only  Caltech
  93.             and ISI have associate programs.
